Friday, May 3rd, 2024, marked the inauguration of the international event “Nefzawa City,” coinciding with the celebration of World Press Freedom Day. Along with an interactive panel overseen by two children from Nefzawa Academy for Media Education, aimed to educate on media literacy. This panel was accompanied by an informational board detailing the natural, human, and geographical aspects of Kebili governorate, along with the most significant events held by Nefzawa Association since its founding. The inauguration was initiated by Mr. Fahmi Blidaoui, Program Director of Nefzawa Association, he started his speech by extending a warm greeting to all of the attendees, supporters, organizers, and visitors. He praised their contributions to make Nefzawa City event’s successful and emphasized the value of media and other sectors working together to achieve sustainable development. The Director of the Higher Institute of Technological Studies in Kebili expressed their delight to be part in such events, which enhance student participation and introduce them to this scientific institution. He noted the interventions from relevant authorities to maintain it, coinciding with the preparations for the Nefzawa City event. The President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the Southeast highlighted the opportunities provided by such events for local institutions to benefit from and utilize human and natural resources in the southern states. He also emphasized the role of civil society organizations in achieving balance in regions, encouraging youth investment, and initiating projects to stimulate economic activity. The President of the Tunisian Union of Associative Media stressed the crucial role of associative media in advancing growth and the economy, along with the supportive structures in achieving regional balance and promoting youth investment. Besides, a representative from the Hirondelle Foundation “Eve Konan”, a supporting organization of Nefzawa City, praised the media’s role in economic advancement and fostering entrepreneurship, particularly in relation to artificial intelligence. Also a representative from the German Embassy in Tunisia expressed their pleasure in participating in Nefzawa City event, particularly to talk about how AI can improve human resources and create high-quality digital material to help journalists do their jobs better. The Programs Director of Reporters Without Borders emphasized the significant role organizations play in enhancing journalists’ capacities in relation to freedom of expression, human rights, and effectively utilizing technological advancements and content innovation in media field.
